We put this kit together to hopefully save many of you hundreds or thousands of dollars. Does your Briggs and Stratton Vanguard engine smoke A Lot, Run Rough, or Have LOTS of Oil In your AIR FILTER, one or all of these symptoms? Kit is for 12 through 18 horsepower Vanguard models.
Kit Includes dipstick seal you choose styel, PTO side crank seal included (option to add flywheel side seal), O ring seal for oil fill cap and Dip Stick Cap. You may not use all componets in kit, it depends on your particular engine.
This can be many things causing these issues, but often we see many people and shops jump right to the WRONG conclusion that the engine is "bad" and needs a "rebuild or replacement!" Often, this is NOT the case and is a very common miss
diagnosis. Now, sometimes it is the case, but more often than not, it is not a bad motor or head gaskets as those are the two things everyone jumps to first. Though bad head gaskets on Vanguards are not uncommon and can be an issue. We find that more often than not, it is a crankcase pressure/volume issue.
This can be caused by many things!
This kit is an easy install and a much cheaper alternative to jumping into major expensive repairs that MAY NOT be needed. We find often the air is sucked in from the PTO crank seal (opposite of the flywheel side), the Oil dipstick seal into the block, Oil dipstick o ring/seal on top of the dipstick cap (if you have the large dipstick cap) and the seal/o ring under the oil fill cap if you have one. These are the most common places we find that cause excessive oil in AIR filters, heavy smoke issues.

Other common causes that we recommend you address replacing on top of this kit or if this kit does not fix the issue is the Breather, we offer a OEM Briggs & Stratton Breather kit with breather, tube, seals and gasket. This is an easy part swap.
We also highly recommend using the high capacity option AIR FILTER AND OIL FILTER. These are the only ones we ever use. And offer a full tune-up kit with these correct high capacity filters in them. The wrong or even standard capacity air and oil filters have been known to cause the above issue with Vanguards even with factory standar filters.
We recommend only running 15-50 or 20-50 synthetic oil in the Vanguards, This oil is also recommended by Briggs & Stratton as well.
Now, these do not always solve the problems listed, but OFTEN they do and for a fraction of the cost of major repairs or engine replacements and down time. And these are all things that should be done anyways so we feel they are well worth the chance. Unfortunately, sometimes you many need a new head, head gasket or engine rebuild or replacement...
