, when we do this repair in shop, we will only replace these 2 parts as a pair
. The engine and / or flywheel have to be removed in order to replace them. You do not want to find out the hard way you replaced the wrong part. There is a diagnostic procedure in the shop manual on how to test these parts, THAT SAID
we have seen them test "GOOD" and they actually are bad multiple times.
The ignition system on these engines is very simple. Often we see components fail very close together in pairs and feel its cause and affect. But the first failed part is not always the cause but can be the affect. So we highly recommend replacing the key switch and coil at the same time if its in your budget. To protect this investment and the time doing the repair once, and so you don’t have to buy parts and spend lots of time repairing again. Sometimes the coil will fail first but has damaged the ignition module and it may fail soon and vice verse. Same goes with the key switch, a key switch that is braking down can damage a coil, the coil may fail first but the switch is still damaged internally and can possibly damage your new coil and vice verse. If all componets test good and key switch and coil have been replaced, everything is getting correct power, then these 2 parts are all thats left in the system.
 
OPTIONS AT CHECKOUT TO ADD Coils, Key Switch and coil bracket. If your current coil has no bracket but bolts directly THROUGH the coil, you will need the bracket IF adding a coil.
SHOP TIP- Be sure all wires and connections are good and not the cause of your issues. When replacing, make sure the rotor is installed the right way. One Side says, "This side towards flywheel."
